Job Opportunity

St. Francis de Sales Parish is seeking a part-time receptionist. The receptionist will assist the Pastor and Office Manager with assigned front desk tasks. The receptionist will ensure efficient and timely assistance to incoming visitors, direct phone calls, sort mail, type the Sunday bulletin, and other office support as necessary.

The successful candidate must have:

Administrative ability to organize clearly, be detail-oriented, and communicate effectively; The ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner; Proficiency in word processing, publisher, and excel; The ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with parish groups; A typing ability of 45 wpm desired and confidence in handling multiple phone lines, office traffic, etc; The ability to set up telephone directories and message systems; Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team player.

Working environment:

Working hours are 8:30 am to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 pm, Thursday and Friday (The office is closed between noon and 1:00 pm for lunch break); Work location: St. Francis de Sales Parish Office at 6610 Balmoral Street in Burnaby; Opportunity to work in a faith-based team environment.

Lunches for the Poor and Homeless of Burnaby

St Francis de Sales provides 50 bagged lunches once a month for the homeless and poor of Burnaby. The lunches for August will be prepared on Wednesday August 3rd, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the church hall and given out the next day Thursday Aug 4th, 2011 at the Southside Community church. Volunteers are needed & donations accepted. This month we are in need of juice boxes, bars, cheese and fresh fruit. If you would like to volunteer or donate contact the Church office at 604-434-1328.

World Youth Day


There are 17 days to go to the beginning of WYD and 7 more days till our group leaves for Fatima, which is the start of our Pilgrimage. We had a signing of our banner last week. We will bring the prayers and intentions of those who signed the banner.  If you have any special prayers and intentions you wish us to bring to Fatima, Lourdes, and Madrid, you may still sign the banner after the 5, 9, and 11 am Masses this weekend. You may also come to the Parish office during the next week (during summer office hours) and sign the banner or write your petitions on a card and we will take them with us. Thank you for all your support over the past year. Please remember us in your prayers.

We have been informed that Southside community Church has had a change in plans and will now be available the first week of August for the Homeless Outreach Program. St Francis de Sales provides 50 bagged lunches once a month for the homeless and poor of Burnaby. The lunches for August will be prepared on Wednesday August 3rd, 2011 at 1:00 pm in the church hall and given out the next day Thursday Aug 4th, 2011 at the Southside Community church. We are looking for both volunteers to help prepare the lunches and for donations. This month we are in need of juice boxes, bars, cheese and fresh fruit. If you would like to volunteer or donate contact the Church office at 604-434-1328.

Revised Roman Missal

Changes are coming this Fall to some of the prayers and responses of the Mass.  “Is it true that we will no longer say “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again?”  Get answers to questions like this and others through the Archdiocesan website at www.rcav.org  a list of resources is also now available online.

Everything now raised comes back to our parish for our own project “Building Our Future”. It is important that all of us take part in whatever way we can, so that we can raise our participation level. This is one way which we can show our parish is alive and well.

St. Mary’s Annual Inter Parish Basketball Tournament

Junior youth from grades 5 – 7 and senior youth from grades 8 – 12 are invited to play in an inter parish youth basketball tournament. Come represent St. Francis de Sales as our youth basketball team! Teams can be co-ed and must have 7 players minimum.  You can either get together with friends who are in the same age category to form a team or we will try to find a group of youth to form a team with you


Location: St. Mary’s Parish, 5251 Joyce St., Vancouver (tournament inside school gym)


When:  Saturday, July 30th 
Time: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm


Cost: Free!

Registrations are being taken for next September. PREP is held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 pm for children in Kindergarten to grade 7 in public schools. Classes resume September 13th. Pick up your registration forms on the bulletin board or in the parish office.

WYD 2011 Event: “CAMINO”

Join hundreds of WYD pilgrims on Saturday, July 23rd at Corpus Christi Parish in Vancouver for a day-long celebration that includes a pilgrimage walk, music, mass, lunch, and concert. Makani Marquis will be the keynote speaker and Archbishop Michael Miller will be celebrating the Mass and blessing the pilgrims. Limited tickets available at $5 each.

CWL Red Carpet Appreciation Day Tea and End of Year Party

Saturday June 11th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm iIn the Parish Hall.  All ladies of the parish are welcome to come and join in the fun.  The Agenda includes refreshments, entertainment, prizes, welcoming new members and thanking all the ladies who help at our CWL functions including parish funerals.  Dress (optional) as a movie star as the theme is Movie Night. Tickets on sale at the Saturday and Sunday Masses this weekend.  Tickets are $5.

Drive One 4 UR School – Building Our Future

To thank you for your ongoing support and to help make our event successful, we want to offer you a stall for our Trunk Sale for FREE.  We need your support…please sign up at the table after mass for a stall.  And remember next weekend to test drive a Ford Escape, Focus, Edge, Fiesta, Fusion Hybrid, Lincoln or F-series pick-up.  For every test drive, Ford will donate $20 to our school (one eligible driver per household, and must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license). 

Sunday Donations by Credit Card

If you wish to make regular Sunday donations using your Visa or MasterCard please fill out the authorization form located at the entrance of the church or at the parish office. Donations will be processed on the 30th of each month. School parents who opt to use their credit card for Sunday donations will have to put an empty envelope in the collection basket so that their category one or two status can be determined. If you have any questions please contact the parish office.

Pasta Sale

Youth Ministry will be selling all natural dried pasta before and after the 7 pm Mass this weekend.  The pasta is made locally in Vernon by the Sabatini family.  Giuseppe Sabatini a head chef cooked for Pope John Paul II in 1984 at the Holy Rosary Cathedral.  It is delicious pasta. Come support our youth!

Kick Off to Summer BBQ

Friday, June 17th from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. 
All grade 6 & 7 students are invited to our 6th annual BBQ! There will be fellowship, games, California kick ball, hamburgers, hot dogs, and treats! Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect by calling Mylene at the parish office. We are also looking for parents or other volunteers to help out with preparing the bbq and food, if we do not receive volunteers the event may not run. We gladly accept donations of any food items such as hamburger buns or dessert such as ice cream/popsicles for our bbq please call the parish office if you are interested in helping this way.
