Upcoming Events at St. Francis de Sales - May 29 - Sixth Sunday of Easter

Lunches for the Poor and Homeless of Burnaby

St Francis de Sales provides 50 bagged lunches once a month for the homeless and poor of Burnaby. The lunches for June will be prepared on Wednesday, June 1st at 1:00 pm in the church hall and given out the next day Thursday June 2nd, 2011 at the Southside Community church. We are looking for both volunteers to help prepare the lunches and for donations. This month we are in need of juice boxes, bars, cheese and fruit cup or fresh fruit. If you would like to volunteer or donate contact the Church office at 604 434 1328.

School Registration 2011/2012

We have limited spaces available in grades 2, 3 & 5 for September 2011. Interested parents can go online at www.sfdsschool.ca to download the Wait List form or visit the school to pick one up and complete it. If you have any questions to please call the school at 604-435-5311.

Kick Off to Summer BBQ

Friday, June 10th from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. 
All grade 6 & 7 students are invited to our 6th annual BBQ! There will be fellowship, games, California kick ball, hamburgers, hot dogs, and treats! Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect by calling Mylene at the parish office. We are also looking for parents or other volunteers to help out with preparing the bbq and food. We gladly accept donations of any food items such as hamburger buns or dessert such as ice cream/popsicles for our bbq please call the parish office if you are interested in helping this way.

Drive One 4 UR School – Building Our Future

Got junk?  Sunday, June 12th (10am – 4pm) is the “Building our Future” Drive One 4 UR School Ford Test Drive Event – during this event we will also be having a community “TRUNK SALE” – if you are interested in purchasing a stall for $20 please email sfds.future@gmail.com – limited spots are available and will be sold on a first come first serve basis – so dust that stuff off in the basement, do your spring cleaning and come join us!

Youth Ministry Selling Pasta!    


Youth Ministry will be selling dried all natural pasta at the Spring Fair on Saturday, May 28th! They are $5 per package. We sold out on the spinach fettuccine last weekend and made $675 in pasta sales! We will be selling fettuccine, whole wheat fettuccine, rotini, and medium egg noodle at the Spring Fair. Please look for our booth! The pasta is made by the Sabatini family. Giuseppe Sabatini was a head chef and cooked for Pope John Paul II in 1984 at the Holy Rosary Cathedral.

Youth and young adults who would like to help volunteer working the children’s games at the Spring Fair on Saturday, May 28th, please contact the church office.  Some of the games where volunteers are needed are hockey shoot, dart throw, duck pond, fishing prize game, etc.

Project Advance 2011 – Touching Many Lives

Our Project Advance campaign is on its way; this is a great opportunity for you to fulfill your obligation of building up the kingdom of God by providing the means for projects throughout the Archdiocese whether it is renewing high schools or repairing buildings and other capital needs which are used to help the homeless, abused women, or handicap children. It is also an opportunity to take part in providing for our parish’s capital needs to insure that our ministry of increasing Christ’s love in all of us may continue to grow both now and into the future.

Drive One 4 UR School – Building Our Future

Sunday, June 12th (10am – 4pm) is the Drive One 4 UR School Ford Test Drive Event – after church please meet us in the parking lot and help us raise funds to build a preschool for our children and our future.  For every family/household who test drives a Ford vehicle (either an Escape, Fusion Hybrid, Fiesta, Focus, Edge, Lincoln or F-Series Pick-up) Ford will donate $20.  We need 300 families to come out to maximize this opportunity.  It’s a fundraising event all about our school, not a sales event, so just come out and take a Ford for a drive!

World Youth Day 2011– August 15th – 22nd

Only 90 Days to Go, we leave on August 7th for Fatima, Madrid and Lourdes.

Spring Cleaning?

WYD will be having a GIANT garage & book, DVD, CD sale at the Spring Fair plus a clothing drive during May and June. We need to collect 300 garbage bags of clothing and small household items. We cannot accept electronics, furniture, lamps, baby furniture, strollers, highchairs…ect. Thank you for your support.

PREP Registration Time

Tuesday May 17th, is the last PREP evening for this school year. Please gather in the church at 7 pm for our final assembly. A social will follow in the gym and pick up your certificate and report card. PREP is held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 pm, classes resume September 13th. Registration forms are on the bulletin board, in the parish office. Submit your registration before May 31st to take advantage of the lower fee.

Youth Ministry will be selling dried all natural pasta before and after the 5 pm, 9 am, & 11 am masses this weekend.  They are $5 per package.  Your choices are plain fettuccini, whole wheat fettuccini, spinach fettuccini, rotini, and medium egg noodles. They are made by the Sabatini family. Giuseppe Sabatini was a head chef and had cooked for Pope John Paul II in 1984 at the Holy Rosary Cathedral.   Please come support the youth of our parish.

K of C Pancake Breakfast

Please join us next weekend following the 9:00 am and 11:00 am for the famous Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast.

Parish Education Committee

Elections will take place on the weekend of May 28th – 29th. There are four positions to be filled for the next school year. All candidates nominated for election must be people of faith who are committed to Catholic Schools. Those eligible to be nominated must be practicing Catholics, registered in the parish, approved by the pastor and have reached the age of 21. Candidates must understand and agree to conduct themselves according to the “expectations for members of CISVA education committees”. The nomination forms and the expectation forms may be picked up at the parish or school office.

World Youth Day

Only 100 Days to Go, we leave on August 7th for Fatima, Madrid and Lourdes.

Friday, May 13th Feast of Our Lady of Fatima Please join us for a celebration of this great feast, 7:00 pm in the church hall. Admission is free, pick up your ticket after Mass or at the parish office. The evening will consist of prayer and rosary, a movie The 13th Day, the story of Fatima. There will be a concession selling snacks and a light meal for a nominal cost. Tickets are available at the parish office or after Mass.

Fifth Annual SfDS Community Spring Fair – Saturday May 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Pony Rides, Games, Cake Walk, BBQ, Candy Floss, Face Painting, Crafters and much more! Our very successful fair depends on donations from our community of new items our Grand Raffle, Shoebox Raffle, Toys and other small prize items. Cash donations and event sponsorship by individuals, families or businesses gratefully accepted.

Mark Your Calendar

Sunday, June 12th when the Building your Future Committee is teaming up with Brown Bros. Ford/Ford Canada in the Drive One 4 UR School community program.  From our church parking lot, you will have the opportunity to test drive one of several different Ford vehicles, and for each family that test drives Ford will donate $20 to help us build our preschool and childcare centre.  In addition, there will be a garage sale and other events happening to make it fun for the family.  So, mark the date and be there to help our school and let’s see how much we can raise!  More information to follow in the coming weeks.
