Upcoming Events at St. Francis de Sales - April 24 - Easter Sunday

Alleluia He has Risen!

Easter is the greatest solemnity of our liturgical year, the greatest of all Sundays. Today we are celebrating Christ’s victory over death, so that it cannot hold us captive away from Him. By uniting ourselves to Christ, through taking up the daily struggle to live out his teachings, we are able to enter into a life which has no end, a life of perfect joy and peace. Consequently, we are able to say with St. Paul “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where O death is your victory? Where O death is your sting?” (1 Cor. 15:54-55) So, Easter is a celebration of our liberation, the freedom to live our humanity to the fullest. It is this that causes us to shout for joy and sing out our alleluias. I wish that the joy we experience today will be with you throughout the whole year as we celebrate together our little Easters every Sunday. Fr. Smith

RCIA – The 3rd Scrutiny

Today we celebrate the third scrutiny with our Elect. The third scrutiny focuses on Christ, the resurrection and the life. The story of the raising of Lazarus summarizes the transformation of life over death. Life promised to us by God that even the grave cannot take away. This is about the effects of sin, deadly sin, that entomb this world and us. This is about a Savior who weeps for us because he does not come to condemn us but to redeem us. This is about the voice of Christ, who calls us forth into life that triumphs over sin and death and Satan’s pride. Lazarus becomes an icon for each believer who is loved deeply by Christ. This saving love bids us come out from the tomb of sin and death. This saving love commands that all restraints holding us back from fullness of life be unbound. This saving love gives to the Church sacraments that lift us up to everlasting life. The Scrutiny Rite takes place after the homily at the 9:00 am Mass. Please keep in your prayers Joelle Brennan, Will Brennan, Laura Hernandez, Austen Ishak, Shantel Stojcevski, Anita Nip, Lorinda Lum-Tong, Cari Luongo, Chiara Barbone, Dante Barbone, Howard Bien, Victoria Brown, Susy Ong & John Dawson.

RCIA – The Second Scrutiny

During the 9:00 am Mass today the Second of the Scrutiny rites is celebrated for the Elect who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil. The Gospel passages from John have been assigned for these scrutiny Masses with the Elect in mind, but they contain messages for the rest of us as well as we prepare to renew our baptismal promises at Easter. The gospel of the Man Born Blind has a clear relation to baptism. Those preparing for baptism have begun to see Jesus, to recognize him and to follow him. For those already baptized, we have been given the light. And that light is seen in the way we behave, in the way we relate with other people. Our lives are to be transparent. There is no darkness, no hidden behavior which we would be ashamed to reveal to others.
